Compatible with: 10A socket compatible with Type C & L plugs. 16A socket compatible with type L plugs only. Newer Schuko-Bipasso sockets will accept European type C (unearthed) and type F schuko (earthed) plugs in addition to both 10A and 16A Italian type L plugs.

The 10A plugs have 4mm pins with live and neutral spaced 19mm apart while the 16A version has 5mm pins spaced 26mm apart. The standard 10A plug adaptors are all that is needed for British travellers.

A type L travel adaptor will convert your British (type G) plugs to a 3 pin (earthed) configuration that will fit the type L sockets found in Italy. They do not convert the voltage or frequency of the electrical supply.

Most universal adaptors do not have a type L plug. The Skross Pro World is a notable exception and has a movable earth pin which allows it to connect to type J, L and N sockets but they are not common.

Yes, they are cross compatible and can be used safely. Type C plugs are 2 pin (unearthed) and are therefore not suitable for connecting earthed appliances.
