Traveling from the US? A type J adapter will allow you to connect your US (type A/B) plugs to a type J outlet.
For Use in: Switzerland and Liechtenstein (3 Pin grounded).
Compatibility
Compatible with: Type J outlets only. Type C plugs (ungrounded) are also compatible with type J outlets. The body of type E and type F plugs is generally too large to fit in the recess of the type J outlet.

Most universal adapters do not have a type J plug. The Skross Pro World is a notable exception and has a movable ground prong which allows it to connect to type J, L and N outlets but they are not common.

Yes, they are cross compatible and can be used safely. Type C plugs are 2 prong (ungrounded) and are therefore not suitable for connecting grounded appliances.
