A type J travel adaptor will convert your electrical plugs to a 3 pin (earthed) configuration that will fit the type J sockets found in Switzerland and Liechtenstein. They do not convert the voltage or frequency of the electrical supply.

Most universal adaptors do not have a type J plug. The Skross Pro World is a notable exception and has a movable earth pin which allows it to connect to type J, L and N sockets but they are not common.

Yes, they are cross compatible and can be used safely. Type C plugs are 2 pin (unearthed) and are therefore not suitable for connecting earthed appliances.
